Local cryptocurrency company sponsors instrument giveaway

Kids big and small got to pick out and take home instruments to call their own on Saturday at Wise Music in Salinas.The giveaway part of new cryptocurrency company Rodeo Coin’s community outreach program. “Today specifically we are here to purchase instruments for kids in need, we reached out to multiple counties in our area, Monterey and Santa Cruz counties, and decided that there was a need,” Rodeo Coin CEO Phillip Roberson said. Rodeo Coin partnered with local schools including Cesar Chavez in Watsonville and the music program at Alisal Center for the Fine Arts in Salinas to find budding musicians in need of an instrument to call their own. “I picked the guitar because I want to be a pop star when I grow up and some people sing when they do guitar and that is what I want to do,” aspiring guitarist Celeste Savage-Allen said.In total, the company planned to help 20 young musicians on Saturday with more than $15,000 dedicated to the effort.
